How to Download Twitter (X) Videos on Any Device in 2025

X (formerly Twitter) plays videos inline but gives most people no obvious way to keep a copy. If you want to save a clip to watch offline, reuse your own upload, or archive something before it disappears, you need a small workaround. The good news is that the list is short:

• A link to the X post that contains the video (it can be an x.com, twitter.com, or mobile.twitter.com URL).

Step 1: Copy the link to the post

You need the link to the specific post, not to the profile page or your timeline.

1. Open the post that contains the video.
2. Tap or click the Share icon under the post (the arrow pointing out of a box).
3. Choose Copy link.

On the web, you can also copy the URL straight from the address bar while the post is open. Either way, the result looks like https://x.com/username/status/1234567890123456789. The long number at the end is the post ID, and it is the only part Twget actually needs. Extra tracking parameters such as ?s=20 or ?t=... are harmless and can stay. Step 2: Paste the link into Twget

1. Open Twget in your browser.
2. Paste the link into the input field.
3. Press Download (or hit Enter).

Twget looks up the post and shows you a preview along with the available files. The lookup happens on the fly; Twget does not keep a library of videos, and it does not store the files you download.

In practice that means the file will play in Photos, the Gallery app, VLC, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, and any video editor without conversion.

Where the file ends up on each device

Downloading GIFs from X

What X labels a "GIF" is not a .gif file. When someone attaches an animated GIF, X converts it into a short, silent, looping MP4 video, which is far smaller than the original format. The Wikipedia entry on GIF explains why the format is so inefficient for motion: it is limited to 256 colours per frame and uses lossless compression designed for still graphics.

Why is there no 1080p option for my video?
